Aurora downs Stouffville, 5-2

The Aurora Tigers took home the win against the Stouffville Spirit, 5-2.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:19 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Aurora forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game the Tigers had been spending in the box. Aurora forced Stouffville's goalies to work in net, getting 47 shots and forcing 42 saves. Aaron Taylor made 25 stops and Conor McCollum made 17. The Tigers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Aurora was led by Cameron Morrison, who registered one goal and one assist. Morrison scored on the power play 6:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Aurora. A roughing penalty on Jackson Savery had put the Tigers on the power play. Daniel Mantenuto picked up the assist. Aurora also had goals scored by Callum Fryer, Michael Laidley, Eric Williams, and Liam Neuman, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Aurora were Kyle Locke, Drake Board, Noah Delmas, and Nicholas Erb, who contributed one each and Johnny Curran and Mack Lemmon, who each chipped in two.

The Spirit were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. Stouffville surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Spirit kept Aurora's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andy Munroe made 29 saves on 31 shots.

Stouffville was helped by Spencer Roberts, who finished with two goals. Roberts scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 19:08 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Aurora. The Spirit earned a power play opportunity when Locke was put in the box for cross checking. Joseph Deveny provided the assist. Roberts' next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Aurora with 19:07 left in the third period. Deveny picked up the assist. More assists for Stouffville came via Matthew Heffernan, who had one.

The Tigers registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For Aurora, Fryer and Nolan Dunn were ejected from the contest. Stouffville registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Spirit, Jordan Nesbitt was ejected from the game.
