Pickering falls to Cobourg in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Cobourg Cougars' Alex Riche scored 1:36 into overtime to beat the Pickering Panthers, 5-4 (OT).

Cobourg almost relinquished a three-score lead. The Cougars made it 4-1 on a power play goal by Riche at 2:53 in the third period. Pickering got to within 4-3 on a goal by John Hudgin at 18:12 in the third period.

Cobourg excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Panthers were unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Cobourg eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Cobourg also got points from Liam Grande, who also registered one goal and one assist. Cobourg also got a goal from Dawson Theede as well. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Mitchell Gibson and Matt Carroll, who each chipped in two.

Pickering also had goals scored by Chris Sekelyk and Justin Bennett, who each put in one. More assists for Pickering came via Doug Carter, Cam Palmer, Sean Power, Daniel Barnes, and BJ Salerno, who contributed one each.

The Cougars' Tyler Lewis stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Eric Pitcher recorded 27 saves for Pickering. The Panthers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
