Huge game by Fischer boosts Whitby over Wellington, 8-2

The Whitby Fury's Matt Fischer had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 8-2 win over the Wellington Dukes.

Fischer got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 14:20 into the third period to make the score 5-2 Whitby. Whitby had gotten the advantage when Wellington's Will Cook was sent off for abuse of officials. Zack Elson assisted on the tally. Fischer dished an assist on Kevin Dimagno's goal that made the score 1-0 Whitby at 9:12 into the first period. He then added assists on Davis Kuksis's goal at 12:42 into the first and on Austin Fischer's goal at 17:56 into the third.

The Fury excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Dukes were unable to stop Whitby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Fury eventually piled up 43 shots on goal. Whitby surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Fury average 3.9 goals per contest. Whitby got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. The Fury's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Whitby finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Whitby also got points from Dimagno, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Kuksis, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Ryan Kirkup, who had two and Ryan Sarris and Luke Keenan, who scored one goal each. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jesse Dunn, Stefan von Engelbrechten, Zach Viminitz, Justin Brand, and Tyler Feaver, who contributed one each and Ryan Erickson and Nik Coric, who each chipped in two.

Wellington forced the Fury goalie Feaver to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Dukes struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

Wellington was helped by Jacob Panetta, who registered one goal. Panetta scored 7:36 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Whitby. Cook picked up the assist. Wellington also got a goal from Luc Brown as well. More assists for Wellington came via Joe McKeown and Nicolais Gomerich, who contributed one each.

Whitby's Feaver stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Olivier Lafreniere made 35 saves for the Dukes on 43 shots.
