Kingston falls to Newmarket in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Newmarket Hurricanes pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Kingston Voyageurs on a clutch goal by Marty Lawlor.

Lawlor had a great game for Newmarket, netting two goals. Lawlor scored at 2:07 into the third period to make the score 1-1 and again while 1:14 into the fifth to make the score 3-2 Newmarket.

The Hurricanes stifled Kingston's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Newmarket's offense rang up 43 shots on the Voyageurs' net.

Newmarket also got a goal from Joseph Mizzi as well. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Justin Wain, Brett Thiessen, and Mackenzie OMahony, who contributed one each.

Kingston put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Hurricanes to score on any of their three power plays. The Voyageurs did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Kingston averages 4.2 goals per game. The Voyageurs kept Newmarket's goalie busy throughout the game, and Connor Ryckman made 44 saves on 46 shots.

Kingston was helped by Alex Stothart, who registered one goal. Stothart scored 5:50 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Kingston. Joey Beaudoin provided the assist. Adam Moodie also scored for Kingston. More assists for Kingston came via Colin Tonge, Cole Bolton, and Rory McGuire, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Voyageurs' Daniel Urbani stopped 40 shots out of the 43 that he faced. Kingston incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
