Buffalo erases deficit to stun Trenton, 7-6

The Trenton Golden Hawks could not hold down the Buffalo Jr. Sabres, and Jr. Sabres erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 7-6 win.

Buffalo let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Jr. Sabres took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Tim Nicksic at 4:10 in the first period. Buffalo found itself down 6-4 after Trenton's Brady Wiffen put the puck home on the power play at 12:10 in the third period. After tying things up at 6-6 on a goal by Zach Evancho at 19:30 in the third, the Jr. Sabres got the game-winner from Ryan Kuhn at 19:50 in the third period.

Buffalo forced the Golden Hawks' goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 26 saves. Riley Brown made eight stops and Justin Kapelmaster made 18. The Jr. Sabres surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Buffalo averages 3.0 goals per game.

Buffalo additionally got points from Brenden Dunning, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Evancho, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Bray Crowder, who had one and Christopher Berger, Daniel Lafontaine, Josh Gabriel, and Ben Casale, who contributed two each.

Trenton was led by Zach de Concilys, who racked up two goals and four assists. De Concilys scored the first of his two goals at 10:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Danny Liscio provided the assist. de Concilys' next tally made the score 2-2 with 3:25 left in the first period. Robert Smythe picked up the assist. Trenton also got points from Liscio, who also had one goal and three assists, Chrisitian Lloyd, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Wiffen, who also registered two goals and two assists. More assists for Trenton came via Blayne Oliver, who had one.

The Jr. Sabres' Alex Connal stopped 23 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Buffalo totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 2-for-4 on the power play. The Jr. Sabres ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and David Baskerville was ejected from the game. The Golden Hawks totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-2 on the power play. For Trenton, Hunter Fargey was ejected from the game.
