Stouffville downs Newmarket in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Stouffville Arena Sat, Nov 22, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stouffville Spirit pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes on a clutch goal by Michael Giacometti. Stouffville overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Spirit was down 2-0 after a goal by Newmarket's Anthony Salemi at 11:47 in the second period. Stouffville tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Brodie Tutton at 18:20 in the third period. The Spirit were led by Giacometti, who racked up one goal. Giacometti scored on the power play 33 seconds into overtime to make the score 3-2 Stouffville. James Mense-Dietrich picked up the assist. Stouffville stifled the Hurricanes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Newmarket was unable to stop the Spirit from sending pucks towards the net, and Stouffville eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Stouffville also got a goal from Tyson Bruce as well. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Chad Burrows, who had one and Matthew Heffernan, who had two. The Hurricanes' offense rang up 44 shots on the Spirit's net. Jonathan Colley also scored for Newmarket. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Sam Hu, who had one. Conor McCollum rejected 42 shots on goal for Stouffville. The Spirit incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Connor Ryckman recorded 38 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
