Whitby downs Newmarket in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Whitby Fury pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Newmarket Hurricanes on a clutch goal by Nik Coric.

Coric had two goals to lead Whitby to victory. Coric found the back of the net 15:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby and again while 3:57 into the fourth to make the score 3-2 Whitby.

The Fury's penalty kill excelled, as Whitby gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Fury stifled Newmarket's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Whitby kept the Hurricanes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Connor Ryckman made 32 saves on 35 shots. The Fury could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

Whitby additionally got points from Jeremy Wu, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Jonathan OHara, who had one and Ryan Kirkup and Ryan Erickson, who contributed two each.

Newmarket forced Whitby goalie Tyler Feaver to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Hurricanes were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 20 penalty minutes.

Newmarket was helped by Jonathan Colley, who finished with one goal. Colley scored 1:43 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Cameron Nicoll assisted on the tally. Newmarket also got a goal from Dallas Baird as well. More assists for Newmarket came via Curtis Harvey and Sam Hu, who each chipped in one.

Tyler Feaver made 30 saves for the Fury on 32 shots. Whitby registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Fury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Fischer was ejected from the game.
