Orangeville wins tough contest against Burlington, 6-4

The game between the Orangeville Flyers and the Burlington Cougars was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Orangeville emerged with a 6-4 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Lucas Smilsky secured the win for the Flyers with a goal in the third period.

Colin Rigney had a great game for Orangeville, netting two goals. Rigney found the back of the net 12:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Orangeville and again while 19:08 into the third to make the score 5-3 Orangeville.

The Flyers' goal total was higher than their season average. Orangeville averages 3.3 goals per game.

Orangeville also got points from Connor Stack, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Smilsky, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Orangeville included Chris Maione and Devon Gillham, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Kosta Likourezos, Ian Nichols, Derek Topatigh, and Shawn Topatigh, who contributed one each and Ryan Anton and Ethan Wiseman, who each chipped in two.

Burlington forced the Flyers goalie Nicholas Latinovich to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

The Cougars were helped by Chris Cudek, who finished with one goal. Cudek scored on the power play 19:43 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Orangeville. Burlington had gotten the advantage when Orangeville's Maione was sent off for slashing. James Thorpe provided the assist. Burlington also had goals scored by David Thomson, Ben Scheel, and Matt Holmes, who each put in one. More assists for Burlington came via Jack Jeffers, who had two and Willy Paul, David Kiss, Spencer Herbst, and Nathan Fiorino, who contributed one each.

Nicholas Latinovich made 28 saves for the Flyers on 32 shots. Orangeville incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Joe Noonan rejected 21 shots on goal for the Cougars. Burlington incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
