Kirkup, Fischer dominate St. Michaels, lead Whitby to 6-2 win

Behind two goals and two assists from Ryan Kirkup and one goal and one assist from Matt Fischer, the Whitby Fury downed the St. Michaels Buzzers 6-2.

Kirkup scored the first of his two goals at 16:08 into the first period to make the score 2-1 St. Michaels. Mitch Emerson provided the assist. Kirkup's next tally made the score 6-2 Whitby with 33 seconds left in the third period. Henry Thompson picked up the assist. Fischer scored 12:16 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Whitby. Nik Coric assisted on the tally.

Whitby forced Buzzers' goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. George Argiropoulos made 23 stops and Mark Manolescu made six.

Whitby also got points from Thompson, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Jonathan OHara, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Fischer, who also had one goal and one assist, and Coric, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Whitby received assists from Patrick McAuliffe, Stefan von Engelbrechten, and Jeremy Wu, who contributed one each.

St. Michaels managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Buzzers finished below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game.

St. Michaels was led by Matt Pepler, who registered two goals. Pepler scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 10:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Michaels. The Buzzers had taken the advantage when the Fury's Jesse Dunn got sent off for spearing. Bron Loiselle picked up the assist. Pepler's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 St. Michaels with 8:36 left in the first period. Colton Trumbla provided the assist. More assists for St. Michaels came via Marco Ferraro and Scott Teskey, who each chipped in one.

Austin Cain rejected 25 shots on goal for Whitby. The Fury incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. St. Michaels registered two goals on six power play opportunities.
