Lindsay survives Newmarket comeback, wins 5-3

The Newmarket Hurricanes almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Lindsay Muskies managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end.

Lindsay led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Muskies' Brock Spear scored at 8:54 in the second period to put Lindsay up 3-0.

Troy Oakley and Brandon Washer provided the spark for the Muskies, combining for three goals and two assists. Oakley finished with one goal and two assists and Washer also added two goals.

Newmarket's power play was ineffective against Lindsay's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Muskies' offense rang up 47 shots on the Hurricanes' net. Lindsay got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Lindsay also got points from Spear, who also had two goals and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Lindsay were Logan DeNoble, who had two and Austin Brown, John Macdonald, Austin Eastman, and Keegan Cairns, who contributed one each.

Newmarket was helped by Jonathan Colley, who registered two goals. Colley scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:25 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Lindsay. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Matthew Marchese was whistled for high sticking. Sam Hu provided the assist. Colley's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 18:17 left in the third period. Taylor Joseph picked up the assist. Newmarket additionally got points from Hu, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Christian Dedonato and Anthony Salemi, who each chipped in one.

Brett Chandler made 26 saves for the Muskies on 29 shots. Lindsay incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Newmarket's Connor Ryckman stopped 42 shots out of the 46 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
