Trenton shrugs off penalties, upends Cobourg, 7-2

The Cobourg Cougars failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Trenton Golden Hawks shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-2.

Trenton was led by Blayne Oliver, who had one goal and one assist. Oliver scored 18:04 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Trenton. Braden Hellems assisted on the tally.

Cobourg was unable to stop the Golden Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Trenton eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Golden Hawks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Trenton averages 4.9 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Golden Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Trenton additionally got points from Michael Siddall, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Chrisitian Lloyd, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Zach de Concilys, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Trenton also got a goal from Hunter Fargey as well. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Kevin Lavoie, who had two and Tyler Donaldson, Robert Smythe, and Brady Wiffen, who contributed one each.

The Cougars were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 46 penalty minutes.

Cobourg was helped by Mitchell Gibson, who registered one goal. Gibson scored 2:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cobourg. Spencer Holt picked up the assist. Liam Grande also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Connor Armour and Ryan Taylor, who each chipped in one.

Riley Brown recorded 24 saves for Trenton. The Golden Hawks registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. The Cougars' Austin Washkurak stopped 25 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Cobourg registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
