Whitby completes comeback, beats North York, 5-3

The North York Rangers could not hold down the Whitby Fury, and Fury erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 5-3 win.

Whitby never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Fury trailed 3-0 after a goal by North York's Jeremy Szabo at 9:28 in the second period. Whitby knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Henry Thompson at 8:27 in the third period. The Fury netted the game winner at 14:38 in the third period on a goal by Thompson.

Whitby got the win thanks to a great game by Jeremy Wu, who had one goal and two assists. Wu scored on the power play 10:27 into the second period to make the score 3-1 North York. The Fury had taken the advantage when the Rangers' Gabriel Valenzuela got sent off for high sticking. Mitch Emerson picked up the assist.

Whitby kept North York's goalie busy throughout the game, and Gianluca Baggetta made 36 saves on 41 shots. The Fury got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Whitby also got points from Matt Fischer, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Whitby included Zack Elson and Patrick McAuliffe, who each put in one. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jonathan OHara, who had two and Jesse Dunn, Ryan Kirkup, and Davis Kuksis, who contributed one each.

The Rangers forced Whitby goalie Tyler Feaver to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. North York's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Rangers finished with 24 penalty minutes.

North York was helped by Ryan Takamatsu, who racked up one goal. Takamatsu scored on the power play 5:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North York. The Rangers had gotten the advantage when the Fury's Feaver was sent off for delay of game. Anthony Paveglio assisted on the tally. Other players who recorded assists for North York were Kyle Clarke, Max Novick, Christian Zanetti, Zack Fisher, and Louis Kereakou, who each chipped in one.

Feaver recorded 40 saves for Whitby. The Fury incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. North York registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
