Orangeville rolls over Burlington, 4-1

The Orangeville Flyers had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Burlington Cougars.

Burlington was stymied by Orangeville's netminder Wyatt Pickrell, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. The solid play of Pickrell will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 3.3.

The Flyers were led by Peter Stepanis, who registered one goal. Stepanis scored 3:37 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Orangeville. Shawn Topatigh assisted on the tally.

Orangeville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Flyers forced the Cougars goalie Evgueni Makarski to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots.

Orangeville also got points from Topatigh, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Orangeville also had goals scored by Ian Nichols and Devon Gillham, who scored one goal each. More assists for Orangeville came via Colin Rigney, Thanvir Bandesha, Lucas Smilsky, and Darren Nesbitt, who each chipped in one.

Burlington put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Orangeville to score on any of its three power plays.

The Cougars were led by Ben Scheel, who scored the team's only goal. Scheel scored 17:13 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Orangeville. Jack Jeffers picked up the assist.

The Flyers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Makarski rejected 37 shots on goal for Burlington. The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
