Cobourg erases deficit to stun Trenton, 5-3

The Trenton Golden Hawks could not hold down the Cobourg Cougars, and Cougars erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 5-3 win.

Cobourg never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Cougars was down 3-0 after a goal by Trenton's Hunter Fargey at 15:48 in the first period. Cobourg tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Liam Grande at 10:28 in the second period. The Cougars got the game winner short handed at 12:04 in the third period on a goal by Grande.

Grande had a great game for Cobourg, netting two goals.

The Cougars forced the Golden Hawks goalie Riley Brown to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Cobourg had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

Cobourg also got points from Spencer Holt, who also registered one goal and one assist and Connor Armour, who also had one goal and one assist. Dawson Theede also scored for Cobourg. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Taylor Gauld, who had two and Josh Hopkin, Jacob Friend, Ryan Taylor, and Theo Lewis, who contributed one each.

Trenton did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Golden Hawks put an average of 5.8 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars were unable to stop Trenton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Golden Hawks eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Trenton's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Golden Hawks give up 2.0 goals per game. Trenton's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Golden Hawks finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Trenton was helped by Brady Wiffen, who finished with one goal and one assist. Wiffen scored on the power play 13:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Trenton. The Golden Hawks had gotten the advantage when Cobourg's Austin Veleke was sent off for holding. Zach de Concilys picked up the assist. Trenton additionally got points from de Concilys, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Trenton received assists from Christian DiFelice, Blayne Oliver, Michael Siddall, and Chrisitian Lloyd, who each chipped in one.

The Cougars' Austin Washkurak stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Cobourg incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Brown rejected 30 shots on goal for Trenton. The Golden Hawks registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
