Washkurak stymies Oakville, Cobourg wins 2-1Sixteen Mile Sports Complex Fri, Sep 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Austin Washkurak stood on his head and made 36 saves to lead the Cobourg Cougars to a 2-1 victory over the Oakville Blades. Cobourg was paced by Dawson Theede, who grabbed one goal. Theede scored 6:48 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. Matt Carroll picked up the assist. The Cougars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Oakville to score on any of its three power plays. Connor Armour also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Connor Hogg and Cole Langan, who contributed one each. The Blades excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Oakville could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Blades put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Oakville's offense rang up 37 shots on Cobourg's net. The Blades were led by Christian Rajic, who scored the team's only goal. Rajic scored 16:57 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Max Lindsay provided the assist. The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Cobourg ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Austin Veleke was ejected from the game. Brendan McGlynn recorded 28 saves for Oakville. The Blades incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. |
