Newmarket wins tough contest against Toronto Jr. Canadiens, 4-2Sixteen Mile Creek 2 Fri, Sep 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Newmarket Hurricanes escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Junior Canadiens. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Christian Dedonato's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker. Newmarket was led by Jordan Oshowy, who grabbed one goal. Oshowy scored on the power play 11:43 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Newmarket. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Aaron Spivak was whistled for tripping. Ryan Young picked up the assist. Team could not crack Toronto Jr. Canadiens' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 12 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Newmarket also got points from Dedonato, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Young, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Taylor Joseph also scored for Newmarket. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Curtis Harvey and Cameron Nicoll, who each chipped in two. The Junior Canadiens racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Toronto Jr. Canadiens had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Junior Canadiens were helped by Anthony Repaci, who registered one goal. Repaci scored 18:41 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Justin Maiolino assisted on the tally. Toronto Jr. Canadiens also got a goal from Michael Cuddemi as well. Newmarket's Connor Ryckman stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Nathan Colitto made 20 saves for Toronto Jr. Canadiens on 24 shots. The Junior Canadiens registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Toronto Jr. Canadiens, Luca Farrace and Nicholas Palumbo were ejected from the contest.
