Smilsky's big game bests St. Michaels in 6-2 Orangeville win

Lucas Smilsky was all over the ice for the Orangeville Flyers, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Orangeville's 6-2 win over the St. Michaels Buzzers.

Smilsky scored at 13:54 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 5:12 into the third to make the score 5-2 Orangeville.

The Flyers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 18 penalty minutes.

In the losing effort, St. Michaels was paced by Michael Lata, who registered two goals. Lata scored the first of his two goals at 2:52 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Michaels. Matt Pepler picked up the assist. Lata's next tally made the score 4-2 Orangeville with 16:51 left in the third period. Luca Doctor provided the assist.

Orangeville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Buzzers to score on any of their eight power plays. The Flyers' offense rang up 36 shots on St. Michaels' net.

Orangeville additionally got points from Connor Stack, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Orangeville also had goals scored by Colin Rigney, Darren Nesbitt, and Shawn Topatigh, who scored one goal each. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Peter Stepanis, who had two, Ian Nichols, who had three, and Ryan Anton and Matthew Barnes, who each chipped in one.

Orangeville was unable to stop the Buzzers from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Michaels eventually piled up 45 shots on goal.

Other players who recorded assists for St. Michaels were Marco Ferraro, who had one.

The Flyers' Wyatt Pickrell stopped 43 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Orangeville registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Mark Manolescu made 30 saves for the Buzzers on 35 shots. St. Michaels incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For the Buzzers, Marcel Fatovic was ejected from the game.
