Pickering rides Cartney to victory over Wellington, 2-1

The Pickering Panthers relied on the sparkling performance of Jordan Cartney in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Wellington Dukes.

Pickering was led by Joseph Mitchell, who racked up one goal. Mitchell scored 13:06 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Pickering. Michael Giacometti assisted on the tally.

The Panthers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wellington power plays. Pickering was held below its usual level of production. The Panthers put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game.

Pickering additionally got points from Giacometti, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Pickering received assists from Daniel Butchart and Riley Devine, who each chipped in one.

Wellington did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Dukes average 3.5 goals per game.

Wellington was led by Joe McKeown, who scored the team's only goal. McKeown scored 16:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Brandon Kosik picked up the assist.

Cartney recorded 26 saves for Pickering. The Panthers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Taylor Welsh made 27 saves for the Dukes on 29 shots. Wellington incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
