Taylor's goals lift Cobourg to 3-1 victory over Wellington

The Cobourg Cougars relied on the scoring touch of Ryan Taylor, who netted two goals, to beat the Wellington Dukes, 3-1.

Taylor found the back of the net 7:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 13:02 into the third to make the score 3-1 Cobourg.

Wellington was stymied by Cobourg's netminder Stefano Durante, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Despite the solid performance, Durante will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

The Cougars stifled the Dukes' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cobourg forced Wellington goalie Taylor Welsh to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Cobourg also got a goal from Dawson Theede as well. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Liam Grande, who had two and Spencer Holt, Taylor Gauld, and Theo Lewis, who contributed one each.

The Dukes' offense rang up 32 shots on the Cougars' net.

Wellington was led by Erick Delaurentis, who scored the team's only goal. Delaurentis scored 4:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Luc Brown picked up the assist.

Cobourg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Welsh recorded 30 saves for the Dukes. Wellington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
