Hamilton uses early goal to top Pickering, 4-2

Alexander Carlson gave the Hamilton Red Wings the lead in the first period, and the Pickering Panthers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.

Carlson provided Hamilton with the game-winning tally when he scored 8:14 into the first period. The Red Wings had taken the advantage when Pickering's Daniel Butchart got sent off for boarding.

Hamilton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The Red Wings were paced by Jeff Joynt, who finished with one goal. Joynt scored 12:11 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Hamilton. Otis Goldman provided the assist.

The Panthers were unable to stop Hamilton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Red Wings eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Hamilton additionally got points from Joel Knight, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Josh LaFrance also scored for Hamilton. In addition, Hamilton received assists from Luke Sinclair and Matt Smith, who contributed one each.

Pickering was helped by Matteo Condotta, who had one goal. Condotta scored 13:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hamilton. Kevin Dimagno picked up the assist. Pickering also got a goal from Chris Sekelyk as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Doug Carter and Mark Tenuta, who each chipped in one.

Mark Sinclair made 28 saves for Hamilton on 30 shots. The Red Wings registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Hamilton ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Punkari was ejected from the game. Jordan Cartney recorded 36 saves for the Panthers. Pickering totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Panthers, Riley Devine was ejected from the game.
