Team California uses shootout to best Detroit Red Wings, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Team California defeated Detroit Red Wings in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout. Detroit Red Wings got a shootout goal from Maximilian Jelavic. In addition to the clincher, Team California got a shootout goal from Cutter Gauthier.

Team California came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Team California trailed 2-0 after a goal by Detroit Red Wings' Ryan Abraham at 8:04 in the second period. Team California knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Michael Mesic at 14:07 in the third period.

Team California was helped by Pavit Mehra, who racked up one goal. Mehra scored 11:27 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Detroit Red Wings. Brando Diantonio picked up the assist. Team California also got points from Diantonio, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Peter Kioussis also scored for Team California. Other players who recorded assists for Team California were Merril Steenari, who had one.

Detroit Red Wings' offense rang up 35 shots on Team California's net.

Detroit Red Wings also got a goal from Justin Varner as well. In addition, Detroit Red Wings received assists from Jerome Pegrum, Lane Hutson, Hunter Brzustewicz, and Owen Baker, who each chipped in one.

Vincent Lamberti rejected 32 shots on goal for Team California. Team California ended with no penalties and went 0-for-0 on the power play. Detroit Red Wings' Andrew Oke stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Detroit Red Wings avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of zero power plays.
