Caledonia rides Furlong to victory over St. Catharines, 3-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Colin Furlong helped the Caledonia Corvairs defeat the St. Catharines Falcons, 3-1.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, St. Catharines faces elimination next time out.

Caledonia was paced by Kyler Nixon, who tallied one goal. Nixon scored 3:52 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Spencer Gourlay assisted on the tally.

The Corvairs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Caledonia forced the Falcons goalie Knick Dawe to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots.

Caledonia also got points from Connor Murphy, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Connor Patton, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Jeffrey Malott, who had two.

St. Catharines put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Corvairs to score on any of their three power plays. The Falcons kept Caledonia's goalie busy throughout the game, and Furlong made 33 saves on 34 shots.

St. Catharines was led by Tommy Barszcz, who scored the team's only goal. Barszcz scored 38 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kyle Woodhouse provided the assist.

The Corvairs incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dawe rejected 32 shots on goal for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
