Kenora wins tough contest against South East, 3-2JL Grightmire Arena Thu, Apr 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kenora Thistles gutted out a close 3-2 win against the South East Prairie Thunder. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Sean McAslan's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Kenora was led by McAslan, who had one goal. McAslan scored on the power play 13:57 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Kenora. The Thistles had gained a power play chance when Justin Kurtz was whistled for cross checking. Jeff Richards picked up the assist. Kenora excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Kenora also had goals scored by Matt Miller and Justin Bowers, who scored one goal each. More assists for Kenora came via Ryan Donald, Trevor Socholotuk, and TJ Sakaluk, who contributed one each. South East was helped by Terry Yake, who racked up one goal. Yake scored 41 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 South East. Riley Dudar provided the assist. South East also got points from Dudar, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, South East received assists from Tyler Dittmer and Blake Forsyth, who each chipped in one. Ryan Person rejected 25 shots on goal for the Thistles. Kenora incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Prairie Thunder's Steve Christie stopped 23 shots out of the 26 that he faced. South East incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
