Carleton Place survives Smiths Falls comeback, wins 4-2

The Carleton Place Canadians, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Smiths Falls Bears and clinched a 4-2 victory.

Carleton Place led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canadians' Evan Peterson scored on the power play at 19:42 in the second period to put Carleton Place up 3-0.

The win gave the Canadians a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Carleton Place's penalty kill excelled, as the Canadians gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Carleton Place stifled Smiths Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

The Canadians were helped by Craig Pefley, who had one goal. Pefley scored on the power play 11:27 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. Carleton Place had gained a power play chance when Neil Doef was whistled for hooking. Anthony Latina assisted on the tally. Carleton Place also got points from Latina, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Andy Sturtz, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Carleton Place came via Owen Stewart, Larry Smith, Brett DAndrea, Dylan Gareau, and Stephen Baylis, who contributed one each.

The Bears forced the Canadians goalie Guillaume Therien to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Smiths Falls also got a goal from Brandon McMartin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Brandon Lesway, who had two and Taylor Henry and Nicolas Coates, who each chipped in one.

Therien recorded 30 saves for Carleton Place. The Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Carleton Place ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Latina was ejected from the game. Smiths Falls' Michael Pinios stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
