St. Catharines beats Leamington 2-1 after comeback scare

Leamington Kinsmen Recreation    Thu, Apr 17, 2014

The Leamington Flyers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the St. Catharines Falcons held on for a 2-1 victory.

A goal by Ryan Doucette put St. Catharines up 2-0 in the third period, but Leamington pulled to within one on David Dalby's tally 19:35 into the third period.

The win by the Falcons clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

St. Catharines' Knick Dawe was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 38 saves and let only one puck past him. Dawe certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.07 entering the contest.

The Falcons' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Leamington power plays.

St. Catharines also got a goal from Greg Jambrosich as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. Catharines were Jacob Parisotto and Brandon Cercone, who contributed one each.

St. Catharines was unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

More assists for Leamington came via Mitchell Amante and Tony Spidalieri, who each chipped in one.

The Falcons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors and had no power play opportunities. Trevor Wheaton recorded 14 saves for the Flyers. Leamington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
