St. Catharines holds on for 3-2 win against Leamington

The Leamington Flyers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the St. Catharines Falcons would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

St. Catharines made the score 3-1 on a goal by Tommy Barszcz at 46 seconds in the third period, and Leamington got as close as 3-2 when Alex Seguin scored 5:12 into the third period.

The win gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Barszcz was all over the ice for St. Catharines, as he racked up two goals in the win.

The Falcons' offense rang up 32 shots on the Flyers' net.

Others who scored for St. Catharines included Tyler Jackson and Brennan Feasey, who each put in one. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Ryan Doucette, Cam Blakely, Dillan Walker, and Mark Rodgers, who contributed one each.

St. Catharines was unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 43 shots on goal.

Leamington was led by Nathan Opblinger, who tallied one goal and one assist. Opblinger scored 11:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Mitchell Amante provided the assist. More assists for Leamington came via Daniel Robertson, who had one.

Knick Dawe rejected 41 shots on goal for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Trevor Wheaton recorded 29 saves for the Flyers. Leamington incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
