Idaho Junior Steelheads beats Fresno Monsters 3-2 after comeback scare

Fresno Monsters tried to dig itself out of a three-goal hole, but Idaho Junior Steelheads held on for a 3-2 victory.

Idaho Junior Steelheads made the score 3-0 on a goal by Hunter Lester at 7:09 in the second period, and Fresno Monsters got as close as 3-2 when Jordan Fontaine scored 34 seconds into the third period.

Idaho Junior Steelheads forced Fresno Monsters goalie Austin Piquette to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Team could not crack Fresno Monsters' penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Idaho Junior Steelheads was helped by Dimitris Jones, who grabbed one goal. Jones scored 5:32 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Idaho Junior Steelheads. Kyle Williams assisted on the tally. Zach Walden also scored for Idaho Junior Steelheads. More assists for Idaho Junior Steelheads came via Victor Ivarsson, Ben Hull, Victor Carlsson, and Macky Power, who contributed one each.

Fresno Monsters' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 85 minutes in penalty time. Fresno Monsters surpassed its season average of 31.0 penalty minutes per game. Fresno Monsters did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. Fresno Monsters puts an average of 4.6 pucks into the net per game.

Fresno Monsters also got a goal from Gunnar Dircks as well. In addition, Fresno Monsters received assists from Michael Freeman, Carter Dahl, and Justin Plate, who each chipped in one.
