Pensacola holds on for 2-1 win against KnoxvillePensacola Bay Center Sun, Apr 06, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Knoxville Ice Bears tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers held on for a 2-1 victory. Pensacola made the score 2-0 on a goal by Paul Rodrigues at 11:30 in the first period, and Knoxville got as close as 2-1 when Francis Drolet scored 12:15 into the third period. The win by the Ice Flyers clinched the best of three series at 2-1. Pensacola was sparked by Rodrigues, who grabbed one goal. The Ice Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Ice Bears were unable to stop Pensacola from sending pucks towards the net, and the Ice Flyers eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Pensacola also got a goal from John Dunbar as well. More assists for Pensacola came via Keegan Flaherty, Shaun Arvai, Ryan Salvis, and Jeremy Gates, who contributed one each. Knoxville did not rack up many penalties in the contest, racking up just one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Ice Bears relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Drolet, Berkley Scott and Eric Satim took 18 of the team's 25 shots. In addition, Knoxville received assists from Mark Van Vliet, who had one. Ross MacKinnon made 24 saves for Pensacola on 25 shots. The Ice Flyers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Knoxville's Bryan Hince stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced.
