Mississippi RiverKings outlasts Huntsville, 4-2

Mississippi RiverKings gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Huntsville Havoc.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Matt Whitehead secured the win for Mississippi RiverKings with a goal in the second period.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Huntsville faces elimination next time out.

Mississippi RiverKings got the win behind a great game by Devin Mantha, who had two goals and one assist. Mantha scored the first of his two goals at 16:34 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Mississippi RiverKings. Daniel Sobotka assisted on the tally. Mantha's next tally made the score 4-2 Mississippi RiverKings with 13 seconds left in the third period. Sean Jones picked up the assist.

Mississippi RiverKings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Havoc were unable to stop Mississippi RiverKings from sending pucks towards the net, and Mississippi RiverKings eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Mississippi RiverKings also got points from Matt Harrington, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Mike Grace and Todd Hosmer, who each chipped in one.

Huntsville's offense rang up 33 shots on Mississippi RiverKings' net.

The Havoc were helped by Josh Harris, who tallied one goal. Harris scored 7:59 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Eric Alexander assisted on the tally. Huntsville additionally got points from Nick Lazorko, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Leland Fidler, who had one.

Dan McWhinney made 31 saves for Mississippi RiverKings on 33 shots. Mississippi RiverKings totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Kevin Genoe recorded 28 saves for Huntsville. The Havoc ended with seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major.
