Wellington blows out Kirkland Lake, 4-1

The Wellington Dukes were firing on all cylinders against Kirkland Lake, and when the final buzzer sounded Dukes emerged with a 4-1 win.

Kirkland Lake's power play was ineffective against Wellington's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Dukes were sparked by Mike Soucier, who finished with one goal. Soucier scored on the power play 16:45 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellington. Wellington earned a power play opportunity when Austin Rust was put in the box for handling the puck. Braydon Blight picked up the assist.

The Dukes kept Kirkland Lake's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeremy Pominville made 39 saves on 43 shots.

Wellington also had goals scored by Erick Delaurentis, Matt Lippa, and Steven Deeg, who each put in one. In addition, Wellington received assists from Luc Brown, who had one and Kyle Paat and Brian Bunnett, who contributed two each.

Kirkland Lake was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes.

Kirkland Lake was led by Damon MacEachern, who scored the team's only goal. MacEachern scored on the power play 10:44 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Wellington. Kirkland Lake had taken the advantage when Wellington's Kenny Murduff got sent off for slashing. Luke Meade assisted on the tally.

Tyson Teichmann recorded 23 saves for the Dukes. Wellington incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
