Brantford rips Dundas, 8-4

The Brantford Blast were firing on all cylinders against the Dundas Real McCoys, and when the final buzzer sounded Blast emerged with an 8-4 win.

The win by Brantford broke a deadlock and gave the Blast a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Brantford forced Real McCoys' goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 36 shots and forcing 28 saves. Mike Mole made 23 stops and Daren Machesney made five.

The Blast were helped by Chad Spurr, who had two goals. Spurr scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:07 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Brantford. A slashing penalty on Darryl Smith had put Brantford on the power play. Jon Jankus provided the assist. Spurr's next tally on the power play made the score 6-4 Brantford with 4:49 left in the second period. Jankus picked up the assist. Brantford also got points from Mark Taylor, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Others who scored for Brantford included Brandon Dietrich and Chris Leveille, who scored two goals each. In addition, Brantford received assists from Joel Prpic, who had three, Kyle Spurr, Josh Domingues, Chris Rebernik, and Jeff Caister, who each chipped in one, and Cam Sault, Mike Ruberto, and Mike Burgoyne, who contributed two each.

The Blast were unable to stop Dundas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Real McCoys eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Team could not crack Brantford's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Dundas was led by Nick Smith, who registered one goal and two assists. Smith scored on the power play 2:11 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Real McCoys had gotten the advantage when the Blast's Prpic was sent off for high sticking. Jeff White provided the assist. Dundas additionally got points from Ryan Christie, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dundas also had goals scored by Dave Bowman and Jason Ward, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Dundas were Cam Watson, who had one.

Brett Leggat made 31 saves for Brantford on 35 shots. The Blast incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. Dundas incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
