The Flint Junior Generals and the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Flint made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Mark McGee secured the win for the Junior Generals with a goal in the second period. The win by Flint clinched the best of three series at 2-0. Nick Gnagni was all over the ice for the Junior Generals, as he registered two goals in the win. Gnagni scored at 4:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 12:55 into the first to make the score 2-2. In addition, Flint received assists from Austin Fletcher, Jacob Lainesse, Brett Leppek, Nate Richards, and Ryan Burr, who contributed one each. Cleveland excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Jr. Lumberjacks kept Flint's goalie busy throughout the game, and Anders Franke made 32 saves on 34 shots. Cleveland was helped by Nick Balavich, who had one goal. Balavich scored on the power play 2:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cleveland. A slashing penalty on Caleb Gannelli had put the Jr. Lumberjacks on the power play. Avery Huibregtse picked up the assist. Mike Palasics also scored for Cleveland. Other players who recorded assists for Cleveland were Tyler Dalton and Jared Johnson, who each chipped in one. The Junior Generals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Tyler Jansen made 27 saves for Cleveland on 30 shots. The Jr. Lumberjacks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. |
