Kingston rides Tanguay to victory over Trenton, 4-1INVISTA Center Sun, Mar 16, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
A stellar performance between the pipes by Sam Tanguay helped the Kingston Voyageurs defeat the Trenton Golden Hawks, 4-1. The win by Kingston broke a deadlock and gave the Voyageurs a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series. Kingston pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes. The Voyageurs were led by Michael Casale, who registered one goal and one assist. Casale scored on the power play 4:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kingston. A holding stick penalty on Bobby Polachek had put Kingston on the power play. Michael Crocock provided the assist. The Voyageurs put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Trenton to score on any of its six power plays. Kingston forced the Golden Hawks goalie Denny Dubblestyne to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. Others who scored for Kingston included Michael Stevens, Adam Moodie, and Brandon OQuinn, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kingston were Spencer Lee, Wyatt Cota, Alex Tonge, and Jarret Kup, who contributed one each. The Voyageurs were unable to stop Trenton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Golden Hawks eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Trenton was led by Jason Zaleski, who scored the team's only goal. Zaleski scored 19 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Trenton. Tanguay recorded 32 saves for Kingston. The Voyageurs registered one goal on one power play opportunities. The Golden Hawks' Dubblestyne stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Trenton incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
