Toronto Lakeshore outlasts North York, 4-2Westwood Arena Wed, Mar 12, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Toronto Lakeshore Patriots gutted out a close 4-2 win against the North York Rangers. Toronto Lakeshore gained the winning advantage on a goal by Kevin Shier 17:06 into the second period and hung on until final buzzer. The win gave the Patriots a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Shier was all over the ice for Toronto Lakeshore, as he registered two goals in the win. The Patriots' penalty kill excelled, as Toronto Lakeshore gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. The Patriots stifled North York's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Toronto Lakeshore also got points from Andreas Tsogkas, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto Lakeshore were Michael Prapavessis, who had two and Niko Kovachis and Rory Bell, who contributed one each. The Rangers were helped by Corey Kalk, who had one goal. Kalk scored 3:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North York. Matthew Whittaker assisted on the tally. North York also got a goal from Corey Helliwell as well. More assists for North York came via Ted Hunt and Brandon Gaudette, who each chipped in one. Toronto Lakeshore's Evan Buitenhuis stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Patriots incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Jason Pucciarelli recorded 17 saves for North York. The Rangers incurred 24 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
