The Cornwall Colts could not stop the Ottawa Senators' Matthew Dupont, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-2 win. Dupont notched his first tally 1:55 into the second period. He then added goals at 1:50 into the third and at 15:53 into the third.The win gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Senators forced Cornwall's goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Anthony Kuhnreich made 27 stops and Liam Lascelle made three. Ottawa also got points from Robert Michel, who also registered one goal and one assist and Eric Clitsome, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ottawa included Luc Deschamps and Chad Millett, who each put in one. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Zac Tierney and Hunter Racine, who contributed one each and Mike Martin, Deric Boudreau, and Michael Evelyn, who each chipped in two. The Colts were led by Cal Hofford, who racked up one goal. Hofford scored on the power play 8:21 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cornwall earned a power play opportunity when Martin was put in the box for roughing. Marly Quince assisted on the tally. Dean Derouchie also scored for Cornwall. More assists for Cornwall came via Ross Craig, Pierre Ouellette, and Kenny Nelson, who contributed one each. Ottawa's Alexandre Savard-Belanger stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. The Senators incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
