Greer nets hat trick, leads Picton to 6-3 win over Amherstview

Evan Greer lifted the Picton Pirates to a 6-3 victory with a hat trick against the Amherstview Jets.

Greer's first goal came 15:02 into the first period. He then added goals at 5:55 into the second and at 17:36 into the second.

The win by Picton broke a deadlock and gave the Pirates a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Picton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 27 penalty minutes.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:35 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Pirates' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Amherstview power plays. Picton forced Amherstview goalie James DAndrea to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Garrett Nichol also scored for Picton. More assists for Picton came via Brandon Peever, who had two and Nolan Powers, Steven Clarke, Jack Davison, Kenny Murduff, Corey Prince, Ryan Sizer, Chris Jones, and Griffin McCarty, who each chipped in one.

The Jets were helped by Cassidy Bruni, who racked up one goal. Bruni scored short handed 9:33 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Picton. Amherstview played down a man on Jaylon Gorman's tripping. Andrew Fullerton assisted on the tally. Amherstview additionally got points from Fullerton, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Amherstview also got a goal from Matt Horton as well. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Brett Yake, who had one.

Adam Wood recorded 21 saves for the Pirates. Picton registered two goals on four power play opportunities. The Pirates ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jones was ejected from the game. James DAndrea made 45 saves for the Jets on 51 shots. Amherstview ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For the Jets, Brody Taylor was ejected from the game.
