Baylis leads Carleton Place over Kemptville, 6-1

Stephen Baylis had two goals and one assist to lead the Carleton Place Canadians to a 6-1 victory over the Kemptville 73s.

Baylis found the back of the net 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and again while 11:33 into the first to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Kemptville faces elimination next time out.

The 73s' power play was ineffective against Carleton Place's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Canadians forced Kemptville goalie Jacob Tugnutt to work between the pipes, taking 52 shots. Carleton Place was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances.

Carleton Place also had goals scored by Craig Pefley, who had two and Stephen Cooney and Evan Peterson, who scored one goal each. More assists for Carleton Place came via Larry Smith, who had three, Owen Stewart and Anthony McVeigh, who each chipped in one, and Tyson Stewart and Andy Sturtz, who contributed two each.

The 73s were led by Jesse Blais, who scored the team's only goal. Blais scored on the power play 4:18 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Kemptville had gained a power play chance when Baylis was whistled for boarding. Dean Galasso assisted on the tally.

The Canadians' Guillaume Therien stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Carleton Place incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors. Jacob Tugnutt made 46 saves for the 73s on 52 shots. Kemptville incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with 13 minors.
