Penetang wins tough contest against Alliston, 3-2

The Penetang Kings gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Alliston Hornets.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Ryan Young's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The win gave Penetang a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Kings were led by Young, who tallied one goal. Young scored 13:51 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Penetang. Ryan Shaw assisted on the tally.

Penetang kept Alliston's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyler Brindle made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Others who scored for Penetang included Jordan Schwartz and Matt Fischer, who scored one goal each. In addition, Penetang received assists from Jack Scanlan, who had two and Hayden Cole and Matt Meher, who contributed one a piece.

The Hornets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Penetang power plays.

Alliston was helped by Ben Skuce, who had one goal. Skuce scored 10:44 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. Jacob Tuck picked up the assist. Dakota Brooks also scored for Alliston.

Adam Redgate rejected 22 shots on goal for the Kings. Penetang incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Hornets incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
