Uxbridge beats Lakefield 3-2 after comeback scare

The Uxbridge Bruins survived a determined comeback attempt by the Lakefield Chiefs on the way to a 3-2 win.

Uxbridge took a 3-1 lead during the second period, only to have Lakefield storm back on a Nathan Larson goal 7:16 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 1-3 in the best of seven series, the Chiefs face elimination next time out.

The Bruins' penalty kill excelled, as Uxbridge gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Lakefield was unable to stop the Bruins from sending pucks towards the net, and Uxbridge eventually piled up 51 shots on goal. The Bruins had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances.

Uxbridge was helped by Korey Brand, who finished with one goal. Brand scored 14:03 into the second period to make the score Uxbridge. Liam Blais picked up the assist. Uxbridge additionally got points from Connor Miller, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Matt Allen, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Uxbridge came via Marco Mastrangelo and Connor Beck, who contributed one each.

The Chiefs forced the Bruins goalie Max Tjin to work between the pipes, taking 66 shots.

Jordan Walsh also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Jesse Gregory, Travis Brault, and Derek Manley, who each chipped in one.

Max Tjin made 64 saves for Uxbridge on 66 shots. The Bruins incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Lakefield's Zach Wainman stopped 48 shots out of the 51 that he faced. The Chiefs incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
