Larson nets hat trick, leads Lakefield to 13-3 win over Uxbridge

Nathan Larson netted a hat trick to lead the Lakefield Chiefs over the Uxbridge Bruins, 13-3.

Larson got on the scoresheet 10:53 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:37 into the second and at 11:02 into the second.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Uxbridge faces elimination next time out.

The Bruins fell victim to a deadly Lakefield power play, which ripped Uxbridge for four goals.

The Chiefs made Bruins' netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 32 shots and forcing 19 saves. Cody Northover made seven stops and Max Tjin made 12.

Lakefield also got points from Josh Duggan, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Connor Blair, who also had one goal and one assist, and Derek Manley, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Lakefield included Bryce Sweeting, who had three and Jesse Gregory and Devin Gilbert, who scored two goals each. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Travis Brault, who had three, Eric Oosting, who had four, and Shawn Mackie, Dalton Hill, Eric Shewell, Ryan Saunders, and Zach Wainman, who contributed one a piece.

The Bruins' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Uxbridge was helped by Connor Miller, who racked up one goal. Miller scored on the power play 6:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Uxbridge. A slashing penalty on Shewell had put the Bruins on the power play. Connor Beck picked up the assist. Jeremy Toupin also scored for Uxbridge. More assists for Uxbridge came via Marco Mastrangelo, Tim Bierema, and Jarett Smith, who each chipped in one.

Lakefield took out Kevin Collins after he had made four saves and installed Wainman in goal, where he finished with 11 saves and the win. The Chiefs incurred 54 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors. Uxbridge incurred 54 minutes in penalty time with 12 minors.
