East Grand Forks' Tweten deadly on offense in 5-1 win against OronoXcel Energy Center Wed, Mar 05, 2014 Tanner Tweten had two goals to lead the East Grand Forks Green Wave to a 5-1 victory over the Orono Spartans. Tweten found the back of the net 1:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 East Grand Forks and again while 10:30 into the first to make the score 2-0 East Grand Forks.The win gave East Grand Forks a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. The Green Wave's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Orono power plays. East Grand Forks additionally got points from Dixon Bowen, who also had one goal and one assist. East Grand Forks also had goals scored by Nick Ranten and Reed Corbid, who each put in one. In addition, East Grand Forks received assists from Grant Loven, who had two, Colton Poolman, who had three, and Jace Pesch and Eddie Eades, who contributed one a piece. Orono did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 14 shots on net to force 13 saves. The Spartans were led by David McCuskey, who scored the team's only goal. McCuskey scored 9:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 East Grand Forks. Sam Challgren picked up the assist. Josh Weber recorded 13 saves for East Grand Forks. The Green Wave incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Orono's Jon Flakne stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Spartans incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. |
