DURHAM WEST wins tough contest against OAKVILLE, 4-3

DURHAM WEST and OAKVILLE were evenly matched throughout their contest, but DURHAM WEST made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-3.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Katrina Manoukarakis secured the win for DURHAM WEST with a goal in the third period.

After the loss made the series score 2-0 in the best of five series, OAKVILLE faces elimination next time out.

DURHAM WEST got the win thanks to a great game by Alysha Burriss, who had two goals and two assists. Burriss scored the first of her two goals at 3:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 DURHAM WEST. Kennedy Marchment (C) picked up the assist. Burriss' next tally made the score 3-2 DURHAM WEST with 19:36 left in the third period. Marchment (C) provided the assist.

Team could not crack OAKVILLE's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

DURHAM WEST also got points from Marchment (C), who also registered one goal and three assists and Manoukarakis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, DURHAM WEST received assists from Megan Quinn (A-home), who had two.

OAKVILLE did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 13 shots on net to force 10 saves.

OAKVILLE was led by Cassidy MacPherson, who grabbed one goal and one assist. MacPherson scored 11:14 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Olivia Atkinson (A) assisted on the tally. OAKVILLE also had goals scored by Lauren Webb and Jazz Kennedy, who each put in one. More assists for OAKVILLE came via Lauren Patterson and Christina Putigna, who contributed one a piece.

Stephanie Sluys rejected 10 shots on goal for DURHAM WEST. DURHAM WEST incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Daniela Paniccia made 22 saves for OAKVILLE on 26 shots. OAKVILLE incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. OAKVILLE ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Webb was ejected from the game.
