Georgetown squeaks by Milton, 4-3Mold-Master SportsPlex Thu, Feb 27, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Georgetown Raiders escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Milton Icehawks. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Adam Mascherin's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. The win gave Georgetown a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Mascherin was all over the ice for the Raiders, as he had two goals in the win. Georgetown stifled Milton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Raiders kept the Icehawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Blacker made 36 saves on 40 shots. Georgetown also had goals scored by Steve Hladin and Ryan Smith, who scored one goal each. More assists for Georgetown came via Tyler MacPherson, Liam Clare, and Liam Board, who each chipped in one and Anthony Marra and Phil Kiss, who contributed two each. Milton was helped by Ryan Burns, who racked up one goal. Burns scored 9:19 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Milton. Patrick Arnold picked up the assist. Milton also got points from Jeremy Gottzmann, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Milton also got a goal from Kane Elliot as well. In addition, Milton received assists from Alex Riche, TJ Fergus, and Ramon Lopez, who each chipped in one. Michael McNiven recorded 18 saves for Georgetown. The Raiders ended with no penalties and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Icehawks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
