Wellington beats Cobourg 4-2 after comeback scare

The Cobourg Cougars tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Wellington Dukes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2.

Wellington took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Cobourg storm back on a Kieran Milne goal 19:08 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The win moved the Dukes to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

Wellington was paced by Andrew McCann, who registered one goal and one assist. McCann scored 14:16 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Wellington. Alex Carnevale picked up the assist.

The Dukes' offense rang up 38 shots on the Cougars' net.

Wellington additionally got points from Carnevale, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Wellington included Mike Robinson and Erick Delaurentis, who each put in one. In addition, Wellington received assists from Jacob Panetta, Abbott Girduckis, Joe McKeown, and Steven Deeg, who contributed one each.

Cobourg kept Wellington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tyson Teichmann made 37 saves on 39 shots.

Cobourg also got a goal from Jake Emilio as well. Other players who recorded assists for Cobourg were Rylee McKinnon and Landon Schiller, who each chipped in one.

The Dukes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Nathan Perry made 34 saves for the Cougars on 37 shots. Cobourg totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and had no power play opportunities. The Cougars ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mason Marchment was ejected from the game.
