Chatham stifles Strathroy's comeback, gains 4-3 victory

The Chatham Maroons, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Strathroy Rockets and clinched a 4-3 victory.

Chatham led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Maroons' Adam Arseneault's scored at 1:46 in the second period to put Chatham up 3-0.

The win gave the Maroons a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Kyle Brothers and Arseneault provided the spark for Chatham, combining for three goals and three assists. Brothers racked up one goal and two assists and Arseneault also notched two goals and one assist.

Strathroy's power play was ineffective against the Maroons' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Chatham's offense rang up 34 shots on the Rockets' net.

Chatham additionally got points from Tanner Ferguson, who also had one goal and one assist and Arseneault, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Chatham came via Steven Szekesy, John Bowen, and Michael Verboom, who contributed one a piece.

Strathroy forced the Maroons goalie Jacob Keogh to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Rockets were led by Chase Thornton, who grabbed two goals. Thornton scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:19 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Chatham. Strathroy had gained a power play chance when Nate Pietens was whistled for hooking. Brett Dalton picked up the assist. Thornton's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 19:16 left in the third period. Nick Boyer assisted on the tally. Strathroy also got a goal from Jack Kilgour as well. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Tyler Duarte, Shawn Grogan, Matt Laberge, and Wes Baker, who each chipped in one.

Jacob Keogh made 28 saves for Chatham on 31 shots. The Maroons incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Rockets' Tynan Lauziere stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Strathroy incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
