Smith leads Dundas over Stoney Creek, 5-1Gateway Ice Centre Sun, Mar 02, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Nick Smith was all over the ice for the Dundas Real McCoys, as he tallied one goal and two assists in Dundas' 5-1 win over the Stoney Creek Generals. Smith got on the board by slotting home a goal 5:41 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dundas. Jordan Foreman assisted on the tally. Smith dished an assist on Ryan Christie's goal that made the score 1-0 Dundas at 51 seconds into the first period. He added another helper on Jason Ward's goal that made the score 3-1 Dundas at 11:30 into the second period.The win gave the Real McCoys a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Dundas was led by goalie Daren Machesney, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Despite the solid performance, Machesney will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest. Stoney Creek's power play was ineffective against the Real McCoys' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Dundas stifled the Generals' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Real McCoys forced Stoney Creek goalie Daniel Svedin to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Dundas also got points from Christie, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Dundas also had goals scored by Darryl Smith and Joe Koudys, who each put in one. In addition, Dundas received assists from Cam Watson, Scott Mifsud, and Adam Deleeuw, who each chipped in one. The Generals excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Stoney Creek's offense rang up 31 shots on Dundas' net. The Generals were led by Matthew Reynolds, who scored the team's only goal. Reynolds scored 6:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Brian Palmieri provided the assist. The Real McCoys incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Dundas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Christie was ejected from the game. Svedin recorded 28 saves for Stoney Creek. The Generals incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Stoney Creek, Cole McNeil was ejected from the game.
