Stewart's goals lift Dundas to 11-6 victory over Stoney Creek

Greg Stewart had two goals to lead the Dundas Real McCoys to an 11-6 victory over the Stoney Creek Generals.

Stewart found the back of the net 11:41 into the second period to make the score 6-6 and again while 5:30 into the third to make the score 7-6 Dundas.

The win gave Dundas a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Real McCoys forced Stoney Creek's netminders to work all game long, finishing with 40 shots and forcing 29 saves. Mark Servos made 21 stops and Daniel Svedin made eight.

Dundas also got points from Nick Smith, who also tallied two goals and one assist, Cam Watson, who also had one goal and three assists, Scott Mifsud, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, Darryl Smith, who also finished with one goal and three assists, Ryan Christie, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Jason Ward, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Dundas also got a goal from Joe Koudys as well. More assists for Dundas came via Jordan Foreman and Blair Stayzer, who each chipped in one and Dave Bowman and Jerry Galway, who contributed two each.

The Generals forced Dundas' goalies to work without much rest, totaling 34 shots and forcing 28 saves. Bryan Worosz made 19 stops and Mike Mole made nine.

Stoney Creek was helped by Kyle Zettler, who racked up two goals and one assist. Zettler scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:54 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Dundas. A high sticking penalty on Stayzer had put the Generals on the power play. Ryan Moore picked up the assist. Zettler's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with six seconds left in the first period. Stoney Creek earned a power play opportunity when Ward was put in the box for slashing. Jake Guindon assisted on the tally. Stoney Creek additionally got points from Guindon, who also had one goal and two assists and Dennis Maxwell, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Stoney Creek also had goals scored by Jordan Prevost and Matthew Reynolds, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stoney Creek were Jamie Visser, who had two.

The Real McCoys incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Generals incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
