Benilde-St. Margarets outlasts Hopkins, 4-2St. Louis Park West Thu, Feb 20, 2014 The Benilde-St. Margarets Red Knights gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Hopkins Royals. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Mark Kaske's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Benilde-St. Margarets was paced by Kaske, who grabbed one goal. Kaske scored 11:41 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Benilde-St. Margarets. Zack Hale picked up the assist. Hopkins was unable to stop the Red Knights from sending pucks towards the net, and Benilde-St. Margarets eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. Benilde-St. Margarets additionally got points from Spencer Naas, who also registered one goal and one assist, Carter Roo, who also had one goal and one assist, and Chase Jungels, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Benilde-St. Margarets were Johnny Austin and Jacob Holmers, who contributed one a piece. The Royals relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as Jim Copouls, Matt Hines and Ryan Kimbrel took 15 of the team's 28 shots. Hopkins was helped by Jack Sweeney, who tallied one goal. Sweeney scored on the power play 10:59 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Danny Waggoner provided the assist. More assists for Hopkins came via Andy Knapp, Josh Laven, and Nathan Nelsen, who each chipped in one. Jalen Long recorded 26 saves for the Red Knights. Benilde-St. Margarets incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Royals' Josh Kuehmichel stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced.
