WHITBY downs MISSISSAUGA in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Sixteen Mile Sports Complex Sun, Apr 06, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
WHITBY pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over MISSISSAUGA on a clutch goal by Rhyen McGill. The win gave WHITBY a 1-0 lead in the best of one series. McGill was all over the ice for WHITBY, as she racked up two goals in the win. McGill found the back of the net 11:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 WHITBY and again while 47 seconds into the fifth to make the score 2-1 WHITBY. WHITBY was led by goalie Kassidy Sauve, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Sauve certainly lowered her goals against average, which was 1.55 entering the contest. WHITBY put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow MISSISSAUGA to score on any of its six power plays. WHITBY kept MISSISSAUGA's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alysia DaSilva made 49 saves on 51 shots. In addition, WHITBY received assists from Kirsten Welsh, who had two and Hailey Noronha (C) and Cassidy Vinkle, who each chipped in one. MISSISSAUGA's offense rang up 31 shots on WHITBY's net. MISSISSAUGA was led by Stephanie Sucharda, who scored the team's only goal. Sucharda scored 5:26 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Lindsay Agnew picked up the assist. WHITBY incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. MISSISSAUGA incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
