Hagersville survives Dunnville comeback, wins 2-1

The Dunnville Jr. Mudcats tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Hagersville Hawks held on for a 2-1 victory.

Hagersville took a 2-0 lead during the second period, only to have Dunnville storm back on a Steven Czepek goal 18:00 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

After the loss made the series score 2-3 in the best of seven series, the Jr. Mudcats face elimination next time out.

The Hawks' Ian Sylves was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 42 saves and let only one puck past him. Sylves certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.49 entering the contest.

Hagersville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Dunnville to score on any of its 10 power plays. The Jr. Mudcats were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hagersville eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

The Hawks were helped by Derek Medeiros, who grabbed one goal. Medeiros scored on the power play 5:21 into the second period to make the score Hagersville. Hagersville had gotten the advantage when Dunnville's Jordan Bolibrook was sent off for slashing. Mitch Green picked up the assist. Hagersville also got a goal from Chris Martin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Nick Sherwood, who had one.

The Jr. Mudcats' offense rang up 43 shots on the Hawks' net.

In addition, Dunnville received assists from Alexander Carlson and Jeff May, who contributed one a piece.

Hagersville incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Josh Rosettani recorded 32 saves for Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats incurred 36 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
